OCRI donated a large canvas, some brushes and some acrylic paint to our Primary Assessment Centre class as a fundraising/ funraising activity. The painted a class mural of their trip to the apple orchard. Each child completed a self portrait which they painted on the canvas under Hayley's design of an apple tree. They loved this project. Please visit it next month as it will be hanging at 240 Sparks before being sent off for auction to raise money for our Breakfast Program.

Picture of the mural's creation can be found here.

The school council will be starting our Third Annual Magazine Fundraising Campaign on November 5th. The students directly benefit from this fundraiser as 40% of the subscription price remains in the school. Last year we raised close to $2000. This year, it will be one of our main activities to help pay for the activities and programs funded by the council.

Information has gone home about this program and how you can help by renewing your subscriptions through the school. If you need more information, or want to bring in some subscription orders, please drop by the office. [more]

The Ottawa Carleton Assembly of School Councils has formed a task force to keep issues important to our schools front and centre in local and provincial political processes.

The first order of business for the group will be to craft a new name that reflects the broader advocacy and non-partisan approach we’ll bring to education issues. Then they plan to get down to work setting priorities and taking action on issues that make a difference to parents and students in the Ottawa area—standardized testing, funding issues, transportation policy, and others.

The task force will have their inaugural meeting on Tuesday, November 16, 2004 in the OCASC room (east end on the second floor) at Fisher Park HS starting at 7:30. Anyone interested in attending on behalf of Lady Evelyn should contact one of the co-chairs of Lady Evelyn or the webmaster. More information can be found in the latest OCASC newsletter.
