In an effort to stimulate continuous improvement within the Alternative Schools in Ottawa, the Alternative Schools Advisory Committee has started an "Alternative Practices Improvement Plan" process. This will ask each school council to work with teachers and the principal to identify issues for the school pertaining to Alternative Education and develop a improvement plan for the following year.
This was discussed at last week's council meeting. The Education Committee will be working with the staff that are already developing the "School Improvement Plan" and will develop ideas for how the council can contribute and support the staff.
An overview of the "Alternative Practices Improvement Plan" can be found at this link.

Dick O'Brien is making a number of presentations to staff and students on the 9th and 10th of March at various high schools in Ottawa. He has agreed to make a special presentation to parents in the Glebe Collegiate Auditorium at 7:30 on March 9, 2004. His topic will be Resilient Parenting.
This is being organized by Pinecrest Queensway Health and Community Services. They write:
We are inviting parents from all OCDSB schools to attend since we feel his presentation is relevant and entertaining. There is no charge. We have attached a resume and a brief description below. Many parents often ask what they can do to help their teenager succeed. His is a presentation that will help you answer the question. Dick will also touch on how to deal with drug use by your son or daughter if you have a concern in that area. We look forward to seeing you on the 9th.
