School CD
Plans are afoot with both the
Primary and Junior choirs, and other school groups, to produce a Lady Evelyn
CD this year. We hope this will be an interesting memento in years to come,
and may raise a bit of money for the council. Watch for more information
later in May.
New Co-Chair
At the last council meeting
in April, Arlene McGinn agreed to join Richard as co-chair of the council.
Welcome aboard to Arlene.
Council Budget
Cindy has provided a brief financial
summary, now available on the council web site. Some highlights:
-
•Around $5000 currently in the
bank
-
•$2300 raised in fundraising
-
•16 "projects" funded by the
council this year, including:
-
•Mad Science
-
•Three NAC Concerts
-
•Blues in the School
-
•Pierre Vaillancourt Quartet
-
•Junior Swimming at Jack Purcell
-
•Clarinet rentals
-
•Books for the Library
-
•Emergency Lunch Supplies
-
•New badminton poles
The more money the council raises,
the more we can support our kids' education. If you would like to help
on the fundraising committee, please contact Sue Hollingsworth at 234-2904.
And don't forget to watch for the upcoming "walk-a-thon".
T-Shirts and Bags
A second run of the popular
Lady Evelyn T-shirts and bags is coming soon. We may be able to add pictures
for those kids accidentally missing from the first run.
New Brochure
Cathy Robinson, with input from
other council members, has produced a new brochure about the school and
our programs. This is a great way to get the word out about what Lady Evelyn
has to offer.
If anyone would like to help
distribute these, give me or Cathy a call or send me an email. The brochure
is available in the office or on the council web site.
Web Page Update
The council web page (http://www.ladyevelyn.ca)
has been given a new "news" format on the front page. Come check out recent
events in the school and community.
If anyone wants to post news
items about the school on the web site, send an email to "webmaster@ladyevelyn.ca"
with:
-
•Title
-
•Description paragraph
-
•Any related documents we can
link to.

on special education services in the Board, the IPRC and parents rights
in general, and
-
•provide contacts for parents
who require further information
Alta Vista Parkway Meeting

Alta Vista Transportation Corridor and its impact on our community.
Board Budget
The province has just announced
$9M of new funding for our school board, far short of what the board estimates
it needs. Our trustees will now have to grapple with cutting all busing,
cutting special education and reducing teaching staff.
Now is the time to make your
voice heard by calling, writing or emailing your MPP. Information and ways
of contacting your MPP or the Minister of Education can be found at:
Co-Chair's
Message
The
school year is quickly coming to a close with the promise of warm weather
and summer vacation. The council has had a good year raising awareness
of alternative education and sponsoring arts, music and phys-ed programmes
for our kids. But there are storm clouds on the horizon as the board's
budget crunch comes down to the wire and school closure pressures (including
Lady Evelyn) re-emerge. The secret, as always, is to get a bunch of people
to come together and do a little work to improve things.
Arlene
and I encourage you to come out to the last council meeting on June 5th,
where we can start to plan for next year and work together to make our
kids education better and more fun.
Cheers,
